You know that mom has to be feeling better when she decides to take off on a road trip with Jana! She left home last Sunday Aug 22, and drove north on 97, stopping for a break at Bill's in Redmond, then on north to Boardman, Oregon on the Columbia River. She has a favorite motel there, and she reserved the same room that she stayed in last year when she made this same trip. She likes the room because it's on the ground floor so it's easy to take Jana out, and it has a refrigerator and microwave so she can make her own dinner! On Monday she drove to Idaho and has been visiting there for a few days.
Last night she called me from Boardman, and said that she was back in "her" motel room. She plans to drive down to Bill's today and spend a few days visiting, then drive back to Rocky Point on Thursday. She said that she had been considering driving all the way from Idaho to Redmond yesterday but then she told herself, "Look, you know that it was a long tiring drive last year when you were in better shape so how about stopping halfway rather than driving the whole distance in one day!" So she took her own advice and stopped at the motel in Boardman yesterday. She really paid attention when Dr. Kim told her that she needs to accept the fact that her heart doesn't work very efficiently anymore and to not try to do the same things she would have done ten years ago. She has mentioned that conversation to me several times, and she seems to be doing very well with acknowledging her physical limitations and working within them. She has even modified her grocery shopping habits so she goes into town more frequently so there is less stuff to carry down to the cabin on each trip.
She was in very good spirits yesterday. She always has loved traveling, and I think the change of scenery has done her good. It's good that she got a chance to get out for a trip before winter sets in.
