End of September (22 Sep)

Yesterday when mom and I talked on the phone she sounded kind of worn out (even so, we managed to talk for a whole hour!). So this afternoon I called again just to make sure everything was fine, and it is. (Although I think she is affected by the rainy weather.)

She told me all about discovering a roof leak during a very heavy rain a couple days ago. Apparently there was water dripping down onto her wood stove, and at first she didn't notice it because she had a fire going and consequently the water would vaporize as soon as it hit the wood stove. But then yesterday morning when she got up she noticed some water on the floor. She called the company that had installed the big rubber "boot" around her stovepipe last year, but when she described the problem they told her that it wasn't their problem and that the boot had been installed correctly. So then she called the nice Rocky Point handyman guy who had repaired the metal brackets on her dock last summer, and he came over with a ladder and got up on the roof to check things out. He thought that it WAS a problem with the boot, and to make a long story short, he called the KFalls company that had installed it because he knew them, then today he came over and met the guy from the company, and they agreed that it IS a problem with the boot installation. They put some other boot on top of the other one, and now they are all hoping for another heavy rain to see if that fixed the problem, and if not, they are going to take it clear off and start over from scratch, and they agreed that it won't cost mom a cent! Mom was very grateful to the handyman guy for interceding on her behalf! Thank goodness for good RP neighbors!

Tomorrow mom is going to drive her friend into town for a doctor appointment. I kind of get a kick out of my 85-year-old mom chauffeuring her 2-years-younger friend!
