Yesterday two of mom's guardian angels came over to help her take down her Christmas tree. Mom said that the tree had gotten so dry that it was raining pine needles, but she just didn't have the energy to dismantle it. She was able to put away her Santa-in-the-sled ornament that she has had since AGE ONE (1926!), and a couple of her other most precious ornaments, but that was it. So her neighbors took off the lights and took the tree outside and swept up the needles and put all her sun room furniture back in order. Mom was so pleased.
To show you how fatigued she is, she had not even started a fire, which is completely unheard-of for her. She likes to keep it around 85 degrees in her house, but she didn't have the energy to get a fire started. her neighbor fixed that problem and she was so grateful to have a nice warm crackling fire. This is the first winter ever that she has relied primarily on the propane furnace for heat, and it's because because she has not been able to keep the wood stove going. She keeps thinking that the furnace is not working right because it isn't as warm as she wants it, but the furnace guy has been out two times in the past month and hasn't found anything wrong other than a clogged filter which was reducing the airflow. I think maybe her furnace just isn't up to keeping the house at 85 degrees when it's in the 20's outside, and the vents go through the unheated crawlspace with no insulation. I am trying to convince her to let me have the old woodstove replaced with a propane hearth stove. She would have essentially the same thing she has now but without having to deal with wood and keeping a fire going when she can barely lift a chunk of firewood. I gave her my best sales pitch this afternoon and to my surprise she didn't say NO! She said she would think about it. That's progress with her!!
Yesterday afternoon another of mom's angels brought one of her friends over for a visit and they brought her some dinner. The word is out on the Rocky Point grapevine that mom is barely eating anything so the angels have been bringing meals for her.
Today another set of mom's angels came to mom's rescue. Mom had called her neighbor to thank her for a Christmas gift, and she asked mom how she was doing. Mom said that she was kind of tired and hadn't yet gotten around to making a fire, so the neighbor sent her husband over to start a fire for her. He also filled up her woodbox, and when I called today she was happily enjoying the warmth from the fire. While he was there, mom was struggling with trying to split her spiralactone (?) pills. She's supposed to take half in the morning and the other half at night, but the pills aren't scored, so even with her pill-splitter she hasn't been able to cut them in half. She called her pharmacy and they said that the pills are from a different manufacturer and they acknowledged that it has been a problem with other people as well, so the pharmacist told her that if she brought them into town, she would split them for her! When her neighbor heard that, he said that he and his wife were going into town and they would take them in for mom and get them split. About 4pm this afternoon, he came back with mom's bottle of 90 pills, all split for her!
On Friday anohter of her angels is going to drive her into town for her appointment with Dr. Kubac.
Mom is surrounded by a whole bevy of angels.
