Well the first false alarm of mom's emergency button went actually very well. While testing the unit, the order of the phone numbers wasn't changed, so when mom pressed the button, instead of dialing me, the unit dialed the neighbors (first on the list because they live so close and they are always home). Nobody had yet told them that they were part of mom's emergency button system.
The neighbor received the emergency call and heard the recording telling him to press zero, which he did. He then heard heavy breathing (which turned out to be Jana sleeping right next to the unit!). He told his wife that Florence needed help and to call 911, then since his truck was full of construction material he hopped on his garden tractor and raced over to mom's place to see what was wrong. As soon as they figured out what had happened, they called 911 to cancel the call, but by that time the emergency call had already gone through to the Rocky Point fire department, so the RP fire chief ended up hearing both the 911 call and the cancellation of the 911 call, so he came over to mom's place to check it out!
From mom's description of the events, both the neighbor and the RP fire chief assured her that it was OK and that they were glad to know that the whole process worked so well. So now the neighbors know that they are first on the list and they know what the emergency recording sounds like. And I am relieved to know how well the whole process works!
