Roses for Flo (Mon, 12 Jul, 6pm)

Mom had a busy day today. her RP mechanic came in the morning to pick up her car and change the oil.

Mom's other daughter and her sons arrived around noon for a visit. Mom had been fretting about the flower bed outside her kitchen window because it had gotten so weedy and she hasn't had the energy to clean it out, and her daughter pulled the weeds while her sons picked up the blown-down twigs and branches that were all over the place. Mom likes to have her yard all tidy, so she felt very good about that yard work getting done.

Mom had called a roto-rooter-type guy to come out because she's been having a problem with her washing machine not draining well. He arrived in mid-afternoon with a battery-operated electric snake. He had mom fill the washer all the way (full load), then drain it while he ran his snake, and after three times they had it cleared out so it now drains well. The guy told her that he went out 75 feet, clear to the 4" pipe. (I didn't think there was 75 feet of pipe in the whole system, but at any rate it's been reamed out the whole distance.) He told mom that garbage disposals cause a lot of problems with septic systems, so mom showed him her "garbage disposal"...a screen colander where she tosses her vegetable peelings! Mom said that she had never had the pipe reamed out since the cabin was remodeled 25 years ago, so she figured it was about time!

Mom's next-door-neighbor came over with two dozen pink roses as a Happy Birthday bouquet! the neighbor and her pals are having "Girls' Week" at their cabin, and they invited mom over for a glass of wine this afternoon, but she was kind of tired from all the events of the day so she is going to join them tomorrow afternoon instead.

Tomorrow she goes into town for her second visit to the new Wound Clinic at 2pm. She said that the doc cultured the wound last time, but that they wouldn't have the results back by tomorrow. I reminded her to tell the doc that she cannot tolerate Bactrin (the antibiotic that caused her nausea and eventual kidney failure back in April), and to tell the doc that she needs to be VERY careful about taking antibiotics in general.
