Wound is healed!!! (Sat, 17 Jul 2010, 10am)

Mom went into town early this morning for her second appointment at the "new" Wound Clinic. Great news...the wound is healed!!! Mom said that when the doc unwrapped the dressing this morning, the sore was completely healed over! The doc told her that if it was anyone else she would probably pronounce them DONE, but since mom has had such a rough time, she wants to see her one more time just to be absolutely sure. So mom has an early appointment in KFalls next Tuesday morning. That's going to make another very long day for her, because she has to go to Medford the same day for a 2:30pm appointment for a second opinion with a gastroenterologist.

Anyway, mom was absolutely thrilled that the wound is healed. She has been struggling with it for months. I am sure that part of the explanation for the healing is her improved circulation as a result of the pacemaker, but mom also gives this doc a lot of credit. When mom was going to the other Wound Clinic before her pacemaker surgery, the RN was giving her a thin sheet of some kind of wound dressing material (like very thin soft styrofoam), and having mom stuff it into the sore with some saline solution to wet it. Mom took some of that stuff to the new Wound doc last Tuesday, and the doc said that she doesn't like it and thinks that it hinders healing! So whatever accounts for this, the great news is that the long-lasting sore is finally healed.

Today is the annual Rocky Point barbecue fundraiser for the Fire Department. Mom is scheduled to do a volunteer shift starting at 10:30am, but she was so thrilled with her appointment at the Wound Clinic this morning that she stopped by the Fire Station on her way back from town to tell her friend about her news. This friend is the one who told mom about the new Wound Clinic in the first place, and mom said that she gave her a huge hug and was almost as happy about the news as mom is.

Mom came home and rested for a while in her green recliner chair, and she was about to head back to the Fire Station. She is looking forward to the day!
