Things are still going well for mom. The pacemaker has made such a huge difference.
Her leg sore is healed. The doc at the Wound Clinic said that she is keeping mom on her radar just because mom has had such a difficult time getting the sore healed, but she isn't concerned about it. She just told mom to call if there is anything that worries her, even a minor reddening. The doc gave mom some kind of support stockings, which are supposed to not only assist the wound area but also help keep the blood from distending her lower leg veins. The doc also wants her to continue applying the mysterious "oxygen spray" for the next two weeks.
Mom has been on two different drugs for her colitis, but her gastroenterologist has never followed up with her, which is partly why she asked for a second opinion. There is only one gastro group in Medford, so the second-opinion gastroenterologist that she saw last week is in the same office as the neglectful guy who has a reputation for not liking old people. The second guy switched one of mom's drugs to something different, but just like the previous drug, it really has had no effect on the colitis. I suggested that since neither drug has done anything, why not just try stopping the drug and see what happens. If it's not helping, might as well not be taking it. She said she had been thinking the same thing, and she plans to call the office and ask about that.
Mom loves watching the weather at RP, and yesterday she got the benefit of a ten degree drop in the temperature (down to the horrendously cold temp of 60!) followed by a hail storm. She had been sitting there watching it and said that there had been so much racket from the hail hitting the metal roof that it was eerily quiet all of a sudden. Then she described the black sky with sun breaking on the marsh. Makes me want to be there!
She is planning to go to town today to get groceries. She said she has learned that if she goes more frequently it's easier to unload the car with less stuff. She said she's getting smarter in her old age! Ha! I don't think mom will ever get old.
