Last Monday was mom's follow-up appointment with Dr. Kubac. This was his first day back from vacation. Right before he left he had called mom to tell her to stop the Toresemide because she was getting dehydrated and her kidney function was getting bad again. Today her kidneys are back on track (for her) and her weight was up to 110. Mom started to tell him about how she had been eating SO MUCH ice cream, but he stopped her and said, "This is water weight, not fat."
He wants to use her weight as the barometer of whether to take the diuretic. He told her to weigh herself every day and stay in the range of 110 - 115 pounds, because that will keep the right amount of water in her system. If she gets up to 115, she is supposed to take the Toresemide and potassium that day. If she gets back down into the range the next day, she is not to take it. Basically he gave her the steering wheel to her own boat. (Do boats have steering wheels?)
So as soon as we got home she went in and weighed herself to see if her bathroom scale would give the same weight as the one in Kubac's office while she was wearing the exact same clothes. It did! 110 pounds. So starting tomorrow she is to keep a close watch on her weight.
