Initial Hospice Meeting (Mon, 7 Mar, 2011)

The social worker from KF Hospice came out to mom's place today for the initial visit, but we didn't get Mom signed up because mom's visits to the Lake Wound Clinic might be an issue. Before the social worker arrived, mom said that she HAS to continue to go to the Wound Clinic. This is understandable, given how difficult it is to get sores healed. Last summer after ten weeks of visits to the Sky Lakes Wound Clinic, mom still had an unhealed wound on her shin. But then mom switched to the Lake Wound Clinic, and the doctor there was able to heal the wound within just a few visits. So now mom has this severe wound on her shin, with antibiotic-resistant staph infection, and she is not inclined to stop visits to the Lake Wound Clinic, and there is some question as to whether being in Hospice would make mom ineligible. The social worker called the head nurse at Hospice, and they are going to consult with the wound clinic to see if there would be a way to arrange for this.

Meanwhile the social worker answered all our questions and gave us a good overview. Mom definitely wants to go ahead with it, if she can continue to see the wound clinic doc. The KF Hospice "team" meets on Wednesday and they will call me Wednesday afternoon to discuss the wound clinic issue.
