Dr. Kubac called just now, and after a conversation about her drugs, she hung up and reported that he already has the blood work from yesterday's blood draw, and that it showed a "kidney quack" of some kind. Evidently the blood work showed a significant decline in her kidney function, so Dr. Kubac called to tell her to stop the Torsemide and stop the potassium. He is about to leave town on vacation, but called her to make sure that he changed her meds before he left. Mom already has an appointment with Sharon (Kubac's physician's assistant) this Friday. (Bill will be here and he will take her to town for that appointment.)
Immediately after mom hung up with Kubac, the phone rang again and it was Whitney, Dr. Kubac's nurse, calling to tell her the same thing. Mom's mind was already working on this new info and she wondered if the increased protein in her diet could be affecting her kidneys. Whitney said that it could, and that mom should discuss it with Sharon on Friday. Mom was thinking so hard about the protein issue that as the conversation was wrapping up she said, "Thanks for calling, Kidney!" Then she realized what she had said and corrected herself and both of them had a good laugh about it.
