Once Again 1.8 (Tue, 22 Jun, 1:30pm)

Mom was frustrated when she did her Protime test this morning and found that it was still 1.8, exactly the same as yesterday. In fact she was so frustrated that she took it a second time hoping that the first one had been an error, but the second one was 1.8 as well. That meant yet another day of Lovenox injections. She says her injection site is getting sore!

She still had one syringe for this morning's dose, but Glenda had to call in a prescription to BiMart for two more syringes, one for tonight and one to have on hand for tomorrow morning in case the level still isn't high enough.

We had a lovely time in the sun room this morning drinking our coffee and talking. She is really an amazing person, very perceptive and smart. We are lucky to have her, and her multitude of friends is a testament to that.

Mom surprised me by telling me that she had not taken the second dose of Toprol last night, and she does seem like she has more energy today. I asked her if her heart has been racing at all and she said not so far. I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that she will be able to stay on the lower dose. She did find out from Glenda that the Toprol dosage is supposed to be based on blood pressure. Nobody had told us that. So yesterday when we were in town we tried to find a blood pressure device that had a child-size cuff, but no luck. Her upper arm is only 7.75" in circumference, so she needs a very small cuff. I would like to also find an automatic device so she doesn't have to struggle with trying to do a stethoscope and bulb one-handed. BiMart has some kind of wrist devices, so we might get one of them when we go in on Friday for her surgery follow-up at the Cardiac Clinic.

Around 9am she wanted to go to the fire station for Tuesday morning with the quilters. I love it when we walk in and everybody greets her with hugs and smiles like she is the celebrity of the day. We stayed for about 45 minutes and then when we mentioned that we were going to have to go into town to pick up her Lovenox prescription, Mata, Tess, and Meridel said that they were going to town this afternoon and they would pick it up for her! So not only did that save us a trip to town, but it also saved us the aggravation of sitting stopped on Highway 140 for the paving project. Yesterday on our way back from town we got caught in that mess and we sat on the highway for at least a half hour waiting for the pilot car to take us through the construction zone. It was additionally frustrating because we were SO CLOSE to the Rocky Point turnoff that we ALMOST could have gone cross-country and bypassed the whole mess. Anyway, the quilters will be delivering mom's Lovenox syringes this afternoon.

  1. Thank you again for your updates! Seems so easy for some to think they get it when they really have no idea, just the gossip that floats to the top.
She is really amazing and you and Bil are too. Don't let anyone come between that. They too might find a new persective and see that there are other sides to every story.
